Rich green, flat terrain, rustic hay barn, a few ponds and a small stream. All this surrounded by the mountains of the Hohe Tauern National Park, is shortly in the opening 1999 18 hole - Par 70 Golf Course Hohe Tauern National Park in Mittersill.
The length of the course is 5.720 m for the men and 5.056 m for the ladies. Although located in the Alps, the Hohe Tauern National Park golf course is a facility on flat terrain. A small creek accompanies the golfer over 18 holes and ends in a beautiful Par 3 island green. Main features of this place are the big old haystacks. There are so many in the square that you should be able to master the rules for immovable barriers. The fairways with their sophisticated greens are harmoniously inserted into the terrain and each ends after the 9. or 18. Hole at the clubhouse. But more on that later.
Nestled between the surrounding mountains and the Salzach is the Golf Club Hohe Tauern National Park. With its ever-recurring water hazards, its lovely old huts that are partly obstacles in the middle of the fairway, this place is considered an absolute insider tip in the Salzburger Land. Personally, I wonder again and again, in what good condition the place is already at the beginning of the season. The course is throughout the year throughout very well maintained and captivates by very well laid out greens. From my own experience, I can say that triplets are not uncommon. Many greens in the square have powerful waves, some are very large and well defended by various obstacles. On some holes, the layout entices you to cut short with risk or play over obstacles.
You should already know the place well to do this, otherwise it may be that you have to expect some surprises.
Hole 1 is a nice par 4 to start, it crosses for the first time the little brook the fairway. The green is narrow and hangs backwards. Hole 2 is a long par 4, with OUT on the right side at the greenkeeper station and again the creek in front of the green.
It is followed by a par 3 surrounded by water, which does not make the club choice easy in windy weather. After a not too heavy par 4 go to hole 5.
A par 3 of almost 190 meters surrounded by wastearea and a water hazard that runs along the right side of the fairway. Now a par 5 is waiting for us, which with a good tee for long hitters should be achievable with the second shot.
Hole 7 is again a par 3 with frontal water and a green that hangs towards the water. Hole 8 is another par 5 with an OUT along the entire left fairway. Tip from me would not be to flip the flag here, the putt back is almost impossible.
Finally, hole 9 a par 4 to the clubhouse with island green and a mighty wave in the green.
Don't let yourself be tempted to shorten very right at hole 10 (dogleg right, par 4). The trees along the water don't allow this! Please also read this green carefully, there are more waves than you think. Hole 11 a par 3 defended by water on the left and again a very difficult green. At hole 12, I recommend playing along the fairway, even if it tempts you to take a short cut on the left. The green hangs heavily forward. Now the longest hole on the course follows the 13th. A par 5 that should be played defensively because it cannot be reached with two strokes. Here, too, the stream meanders through the fairway, and just before the green is a hut in the middle of the fairway.
We continue to hole 14, here too you shouldn't orientate yourself too far to the left across the pond, along the fairway you are safe. Another par 5 follows with a waste area and sand bunkers in front of the green, the green itself has a huge wave, you shouldn't overturn the green.
Hole 16 is again a par 3 with a length of 185 meters. The 17 is one of the more difficult par 4 holes on the course. Due to the length of over 400 meters, the drive must be well placed on the left, otherwise you have no chance to play the green between the trees on the right. The final hole 18, a beautiful par 3 with island green directly to the clubhouse. A good shot on the green is usually rewarded with applause from the people on the terrace.
